Bam Bar
Legendary granita. Almond + coffee combo is the move. Order one each.
Long lopsided loop: north to Etna, east to Taormina, back south to the villa.
South side of Etna. Highway then mountain road. Eat breakfast at the villa first — the parking-lot café at Sapienza is fine but not great.
~10-minute ride up. No hiking required — disembark, take in the lunar landscape, photo op, return. Group can stay 30–60 min depending on weather and tolerance. €50 adult, €35 under-18.
Bring jackets. It's cold up there even in June. Closed-toe shoes — volcanic gravel is unforgiving.
From the cable car top further up toward the active craters. ~90 min. €60–80 pp. Cold, dusty, exhilarating. Anyone who wants to skip waits at the cable car café with coffee.
Down the mountain, around to the coast. The view of the Ionian appearing as we descend is one of the trip's set pieces.
Legendary. Almond + coffee combo is the move. Add a brioche.
Terrace views over the gulf. Reserve a window. Pasta and a Sicilian wine.
Mostly accessible. The Etna-and-sea backdrop is the iconic Sicily shot. 45–60 min is plenty.
The main pedestrian drag. Window-shop, eat gelato, find a bench. It is touristy. Lean in.
Splurge / decadent: Le Bar Louis Vuitton — Sage rec, "out of the fray, a bit decadent." Reservations here.
Sunset views: Drive 15 min up to Bar Turrisi in Castelmola for the famous Etna-and-sea panorama.
Osteria RossoDiVino (cozy classics) or Otto Geleng (Belmond, Michelin) — see below.
Late return ~10:30–11 PM. Plan a slow Thursday morning — and Thursday is built for it.
Legendary granita. Almond + coffee combo is the move. Order one each.
Terrace views over the gulf. Reserve a window seat. Sicilian classics, fairly priced for the location.
Sage: "Out of the fray. A bit decadent." Negroni-and-velvet vibes. Reservations here.
15 min drive up the hill from Taormina. Famous Etna-and-sea panorama. The bar itself is famously phallic-themed — fair warning. Sit outside for the view.
Cozy, Sicilian classics. The non-splurge dinner option, and probably the right one given how long the day already is.
Splurge. Terrace dining at the Belmond. Confirm June service when booking — Hotel Timeo is reopening fully May 2026.
