La Pescheria / A' Piscaria
Mon–Sat ~7:30 AM–noon. Wild, theatrical fish market behind Piazza Duomo. Closed Sundays — Saturday plan works perfectly. Don't miss even if not buying.
Closest excursion of the trip. Keeps Sunday morning logistics simple.
Easy highway run. Park near the centro storico — paid lots near Piazza del Duomo work.
Behind Piazza Duomo. Open Mon–Sat ~7:30 AM–noon (closed Sundays — the Saturday plan works perfectly). Wild, theatrical, smells like the sea. Don't miss this even if we don't buy anything.
Vendors shouting. Whole tuna split open on the slab. Octopus on ice. Loud Sicilian. The teens will either love it or hate it; either way, they'll remember it.
Piazza del Duomo. The cathedral has Bellini buried inside. The Fontana dell'Elefante is the city's symbol — made of lava stone, found buried in the ancient Roman ruins, repurposed in the 18th century with an obelisk on top.
Sicilian classics, atmospheric, photogenic. Bib Gourmand 2025. Reserve. Backup: A Putia dell'Ostello (more casual).
Catania's main shopping street. Last-minute gifts: ceramics, almond products, marzipan fruit, olive oil. Avoid the very-touristy stuff near Piazza Duomo; walk a few blocks north for better shops.
Back to the villa. Pool. Start packing.
Big finish: Drive to Ortigia for one final dinner. Try whichever of the Sunday/Monday picks we didn't do — Don Camillo (4.5★) or Cortile Spirito Santo (4.7★ ★ Michelin) are classic last-night choices.
Quiet finish: Aperitivo at the villa, then villa pasta + leftover wine + the last of the cheese from the Mercato.

Casual local. Cheaper alternative to Mè Cumpari Turiddu — same neighborhood feel, more relaxed.
The Saturday-night dinner is the trip's send-off. Two coherent options:
Big finish in Ortigia. 25 minutes from the villa, the city we've come to know well by now. Whichever of Don Camillo (4.5★) or Cortile Spirito Santo (4.7★ ★ Michelin) we didn't do earlier in the week. End with a drink on Piazza Duomo as it empties out. Drive home around 11.
Quiet finish at the villa. Aperitivo on the terrace. Villa pasta — pull out whatever's left of the chef-in groceries, the Mercato cheese, the Modica chocolate. The last bottles of the wine we kept opening. Eat outside if it's warm. Easier on everyone. Easier on the Sunday-morning departure.
Third option: Ortigia round-three, but order takeaway from a favorite (the trattoria can put together antipasti and pasta to-go if asked) and bring it home. Best of both. Less perfect but fun.
